raging clouds

By Sabreena

On Thursday afternoon, clouds gathered up for a storm. Just minutes before the sky started to become dark, the sky was clear with sunshine. It wasn’t long before the sun was hidden behind the clouds and rain was headed our way. The sky started to get dark and you can hear the thunder coming. Few signs of lightning. But thunder slowly became loud. Just a few minutes later, rain started and was falling heavily. But only for a short period of time. Before we knew it, it was over. Rain was slowing down. Soon enough, even the sun came out. The roads slowly dried off. It seemed like nothing happened and not a drop of water hit the ground as the sun had dried off the wet concrete of the streets. But I must say, the clouds looked amazing before the storm. Even better when it was a bright blue sky with the sun shinning through it.

9/11 – 10 years later

The view of Manhattan, NY done on a scratch paper with a match.

By Sabreena

As we all know, ten years ago today, an incident that changed New York forever. 9/11 as the day we see it. September 11, 2001, 8:46 am, Flight 11 of American Airlines crashes into the North building of the World Trade Center. 9:03 am, United Airlines Flight 77 hits the South Tower.

From where I live, I can view some of the building of Manhattan. For example the Chrysler Building, The Empire State Building, and The World Trade Center (ten years ago). I was in the third grade. I can’t remember much, but some things I can’t forget about that day. The lunch period just started as I was eating in the cafeteria when all of a sudden the teachers came down to take their classes back up into the classrooms. When my class went back to our room,

Kitty Damage

This is him sleeping normally

This is how he sleeps sometimes.

This is how he sleeps.

By Sabreena

Just two days ago, I tried to take a picture of my kitten sleeping in a funny position. I ran to get my camera, turned it on, and saw the screen wasn’t working. I thought it was the batteries. Then I realized what really happened. Last week, my kitten was very hyper and jumped all over the place. He threw all of my items from the table to the floor. I still have some papers missing. I found the camera behind the computer table. It looked fine to me, so I put it back on my table and proceeded to do my work.

I haven’t checked the camera in a week. Just when I needed it for something, I see the screen is cracked. And when you turn it on,  you can tell how broken the screen is. I was in fury. I didn’t know what to do. It was my favorite, and only camera. And i actually made sure nothing happened to it for the past 3 years.

I didn’t know such a small kitten can cause such damage. I yelled at my kitten, but there’s no point because he obviously doesn’t understand me. All my kitten can understand is “food”. He has definitely ruined many things, but not as much as he broke the camera. Hopefully I get a new camera, and this time, I am putting it in a place where my kitten can never touch it. I have also need to clean the table which he destroys everyday in his morning sugar rush. After a good nap he is good to go. Go on a new adventure everyday, and mess up more of my things. But after all, he is only four months old, still a kitten, and who wakes me up every morning, at least half an hour before my alarm rings just so i would play with him.

Hurricane Irene’s Effects

Tree broken from the roots

By Sabreena

Tree broken and cut up

By Sabreena

When I was walking by my college one day, I looked across the street and saw this. A tree was pulled from the ground and took its roots along with it. The winds must have been pretty strong to bring this tree down. When you look closely,  you can see how big the roots are and how far it was pulled out.  The tree was was later cut into small pieces and moved so it doesn’t get in the way of the street and the side walk.

Later when I visited the same place a few hours later, the tree was gone. Good thing I took a picture before they removed it.

Eid-al-Fitr

Eid Prayer

Prayer

By Sabreena

Today was the holy day of Eid-al-Fitr. A muslim holiday which is celebrated after 30 days of fast also known as Ramadan. Ramadan is fasting for Mercy, Forgiveness, and Salvation for 30, sometimes 29 days. Fasting lasts from sunrise to sunset. During fasting, one cannot eat, drink, or smoke. After a daily fast, one breaks his fast during Iftar time, or feast.

During Eid, many people travel to the Mosque to pray. Where I live, there are too many people around the area to fit in one Mosque. So they decided to hold the prayer to the nearest High School’s field. There were as many as a thousand people in one field. Maybe even more.

Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene

I was on my way to get some art supplies when I looked out my car window and saw this. A tree fallen on the sidewalk. Immediately I knew this was the cause of yesterdays hurricane. Although I did not expect to see this on my way, I decided to stop so I can capture a picture of the damage.

After Hurricane Irene Hits New York City

Sunset after Hurricane Irene in New York City

By Sabreena

We all know the disaster that came around the Eastern side of the United States on Saturday Aug 27, 2011, known as Hurricane Irene. The hurricane was later downgraded to a “Tropical Storm” instead. Though it wasn’t as strong and heavy as a hurricane, it still caused much damage to the states hit: Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and many more on its path. The hurricane still managed to kill almost 19 people.
